Cool Technology of the Week - Special Edition
A few minutes ago, Steve Jobs announced the Apple Macbook Air
1.6Ghz Core Duo, 2 Gig RAM, 13.3 inch widescreen, 5 hour battery life, .16-.76 inch thick, 3 pounds, 802.11n + Bluetooth 2.1/EDR, 45 Watt MagSafe, 1 USB 2.0 port, Micro-DVI, Audio Out, aluminum case, LED Backlighting, multi-touch trackpad, no mercury or lead, $1799
This is the machine I've been waiting for. I'll be retiring my other machines soon.
I was really hoping for some updates to Leopard, but that still might be in the cards for this Macworld week.
ReplyDeleteI was a total PC guy for the longest, with a lot of dabbling in Linux (even did my internship at IBM at AMEX helping to keep up a linux testing environment)....Anyways, I'm now a total Apple Fanboy in all respects.
I bought the macbook in October, and its been great helping me while im in school finishing up my MHA.
Bought the iPhone a couple of weeks ago, and love it to no end.
When I'm done paying student loans, I will be looking at a laptop like this. That won't be for a while though.
What about the machine have you been waiting for? Other than the clear advantages of weight and size reduction? SSD drive option maybe?
ReplyDeleteMy biggest quam is that the battery is not user-accessible. I have a 15" aluminum PowerBook (pre-Intel) and I'm about to burn out my 2nd battery since I bought it in March of 2005.
ReplyDeleteGive me a 160GB HDD (which exists in the 1.8” form factor), a 2+GHz processor, and if the battery can be replaced by an Apple Certified Technician (as opposed to sending it to Cupertino) , then it will be my impending replacement for my PowerBook this Spring.
My blog entry on Friday will be a thorough analysis of this machine. My requirements are for durability, ultraportability, and easy of use, which this machien offers.
