This is quite similar to Google's <a href="http://www.datacenterknowledge.com/archives/2008/09/06/google-planning-offshore-data-barges/" rel="nofollow">floating data centers</a> idea protected via this <a href="http://www.scribd.com/doc/6452823/US-Patent-Application-20080209234-by-Google-Inc" rel="nofollow">patent application</a>.<br /><br />It's interesting that the Googlers did not include <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ocean_thermal_energy_conversion" rel="nofollow">OTEC</a> as a potential source of electrical generation. OTEC generates electricity using thermal differences of deep ocean water vs surface water. In the process of generating electricity large amounts of cold water is pumped from the deep ocean which can then be used to cool servers.
