Many of the measures of meaningful use include "patients seen by the EP" in their definition of denominator. In a large multi-specialty group practice, radiologists are rarely face to face with a patient. Patients who are scheduled for diagnostic imaging studies are not scheduled to see an individual radiologist. With no appointments or office visit charges to look at to figure out who was "seen by" the Radiologist, what data could on claim implies the patient was "seen by" the Radiologist?kentBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17031093774646720614noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4384692836709903146.post-56932262031127526572010-07-21T08:32:01.493-07:002010-07-21T08:32:01.493-07:00Thanks for your take on the various requirements. ...Thanks for your take on the various requirements. One question, per your comment about what BIDMC is doing. I understand you have built your own patient portal. Do you foresee needing to have that "certified" as well or is the patient portal just a means in which to "display" information to patients from your certified EMR, etc.? Just trying to get a sense if a patient portal would need to be certified as well.

Thanks again!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4384692836709903146.post-81057223508634948592010-07-21T05:13:20.294-07:002010-07-21T05:13:20.294-07:00How does free text play into meaningful use? The text could be generated by front- or back-end speech recognition, by traditional transcription, or by physician typing. It would seem that deploying natural language processing, to extract the clinical facts and convert them to EHR-field-populating codes, might be required in order to qualify as meaningful use.Joe Weberhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10373870420143259294noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4384692836709903146.post-91016527468284850262010-07-20T08:35:29.069-07:002010-07-20T08:35:29.069-07:00John - thanks for the information. If a EH has a certified EHR for Inpatients and a seperate certified EHR for ED (both from different vendors). How would they report their metrics for CPOE? Example: IP CPOE is only 10% but ED CPOE is at 80% but combined they would reach the 30% threshold.

Would the facility report the two seperate numbers or combine the two numbers manually?

Would the facility need a "Site Certification" even though both vendors were certified?

Thanks!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4384692836709903146.post-11255214214089185652010-07-19T13:35:19.234-07:002010-07-19T13:35:19.234-07:00Could a radiologist meet the standard of Meaningfu...Could a radiologist meet the standard of Meaningful Use, if so, how?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4384692836709903146.post-32101245515244890352010-07-19T13:30:28.787-07:002010-07-19T13:30:28.787-07:00John,
